Bell recalls BMX helmet sold at Toys R Us

CPSC has announced that Bell Sports is recalling Bell Full Throttle bicycle motocross (BMX) bike helmets. The helmet has a chinbar and a large visor, and resembles a motorcycle helmet.

"The buckle on the helmet's safety strap can release in an accident and allow the helmet to fall off the rider, posing a risk of head injury."

About 2,500 of the helmets were sold at Toys R Us stores nationwide and on line at ToysRUs.com between July 2012 and January 2013 for about $60.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Bell Sports for instructions on receiving a full refund.

CPSC's press release is on line.

Bell may have been surprised by the timing of the recall. A link in the CPSC press release takes you to an earlier Bell BMX helmet recall for buckle problems and in fact that is the only recall notice on the site at present.
